How banked Codex resets work

Find an available reset, understand what redemption changes, and distinguish grants from automatic or purchased resets.

Your account is the source of truth for your own allowance. This site cannot read or reset your Codex usage.

A saved benefit, not more permanent capacity

OpenAI defines a banked reset as a one-time Codex usage-limit reset saved to your account until use or expiration. It is a promotional benefit, not purchased credit, cash, API credit, or a transferable balance. Receiving one does not permanently increase your plan’s limits.

Eligibility depends on the particular offer. Plan, account standing, region, workspace, qualifying cutoffs, and availability can matter. Someone else receiving a reset does not establish your eligibility, even if your plan names match. Future promotional resets are not guaranteed.

Find and review it before applying

Open Settings → Usage in a supported Codex client or on the web. If a reset is available, select the usage summary that shows it, review the expiration details, and decide whether to confirm redemption. The option may also appear when you reach a usage limit. Do not assume every account has the same options.

A full banked reset refreshes the five-hour and weekly Codex usage windows and changes the weekly reset date. OpenAI says it is consumed only when it successfully refreshes at least one eligible window. If there is nothing to reset, it stays available. After use, check the updated schedule rather than relying on the old weekly timer.

Do not confuse three different mechanisms

An automatic/global reset applies directly and does not create a saved reset. A purchased instant reset, where offered, also applies immediately and cannot be banked. Credits are different again: they pay for supported extra usage rather than restoring an allowance. Read the specific account offer before taking a paid action.

If a reset seems missing or ineffective, refresh or reopen Usage and confirm the account or workspace. A dashboard update can take a little time. Check expiration, then contact Support if needed with the expected offer, client, model, screenshot, and date, time, and time zone of use.

OpenAI says unused expired resets cannot be restored or reissued, and Support does not provide manual or courtesy resets. Support can investigate verified eligibility or application errors; filing a report alone does not qualify you for another reset or compensation.
