Your dashboard is the clock to trust
There is no verified universal weekday or midnight reset time that this site can apply to every Codex account. Read the next reset time in your own Usage dashboard or the limit notice. Check which account, workspace, and allowance the notice describes before comparing it with somebody else’s screenshot.
A public reset tracker answers a different question: when did OpenAI announce a discretionary reset for a group of users? That history does not reveal your personal weekly anchor, prove eligibility, or guarantee that another reset is due. Avoid planning urgent work around an inferred rhythm.
Several different things are called a reset
An automatic/global reset applies directly to the eligible allowance. A banked reset is saved until you choose to use it or it expires. OpenAI says a full banked reset refreshes the five-hour and weekly windows and changes the weekly reset date. Always check the updated time after applying one.
A purchased instant reset is different again. Where offered, it applies immediately and cannot be saved. OpenAI’s paid-reset article specifically says the new weekly period starts with your first Work or Codex request after application, with the next automatic reset seven days after that request. That rule describes this purchase flow; it should not be generalized to every reset type.
Plan around the notice, not the rumor
If your weekly allowance is exhausted, review the options actually offered to your account. Credits fund supported usage after included limits are reached; they are not a banked reset. A purchase can have consequences for both cost and schedule, so read the checkout terms rather than assuming it simply adds another unchanged week.
- Record the reset date, time, and time zone shown to you.
- Recheck after redeeming a reset or changing the relevant account state.
- Keep a fallback plan for deadline-sensitive work; future promotional resets are not guaranteed.
- Treat missing records in this starter history as a coverage gap, not proof that no reset occurred.
